Technology is one of the determinative elements in
humankind’s evolution. Social change is being is brought together with the
massive usage of technology in many fields such as: health care,
transportation, communication, industry, education etc. Industrial revolution
was the most important step of technological development in Western Europe.
With the raw material and market seeking endeavors it gradually took an
influential role in the world politics. These processes caused developments in
military technologies of the World War 1 and World War 2. However, the
satellite technology has been discovered after the wars. Thanks to these
processes, mankind has witnessed an enormous communication revolution.
The influence of new technological developments are
increasingly changing today’s modern life. New communication technology is
being integrated into our life through several ways such as at work while
producing goods and services, at home while resting or doing housework, or on
the road while driving, or on the streets while walking… Along with its vast
usage and quantitative impact, it has a qualitative influence through facilitating our
lives. However, these technologies not only have positive contributions but
also have negative effects as well. Particularly this impact can be seen on
young generation enormously. Because new media penetrated into the prevalent
parts of our life like schools, coffee houses, libraries, homes etc., our life
style is shaped by the developments in new communicational technology.
The new media was turned into a
new source of information for youngsters, it became a practical part of student
life today. In comparison with the past, students spend less time to reach
knowledge via Internet yet mostly unverified information is widespread. Cell
phone, social media and online video games cause technological addictions. Excessive
and wrong use of technology destroys the daily life of youth more than any time
else. Nowadays, we can see that technology addiction causes failures in the
schools and it reduces curiosity for learning and unfortunately leads to communication
disorders. The widespread use of Internet also makes young people to cut ties
of social life integration. Many people who feel lonely are tend to find
friendship online. We have been witnessing that technology damages social life
and interaction of youngsters.
